Four free days in a row? Sure. So we got in the car. And after 10 hours on the road we finally reached Edessa, the town of waters, Greece.

Edessa (means “water” in Greek) is a relatively small town, but it’s got its name for a reason. If you’ve got a chance, go see it and ask people to show you the way to the “waterfalls” ;-)

Then we set off for Meteora.

Meteora is a complex of monasteries built on rock pillars. The monasteries used to be 14 with only 6 left intact. They are all inhabited – five of them by monks and one by nuns. To learn more just click here.

A christian site, visited by people of all faiths.

We spent the night at a hotel in Paralia Katerini (the “beach of Katerini”). From the beach you can see Olympus.

Near Katerini there is Kondariotissa, a small village with a gorgeous monastery. As our hostess said, the most beautiful one in Greece. It could easily turn out to be true.

It is really beautiful. And the nuns are really kind.

Yes, you can spot Olympus in the background. I’d love to try my snowboard there, all the way down.

And the last stop was Thessaloniki. This is the “White Tower”. During the ages it served well as a stronghold, prison and executions site. Now it’s just a calm monument at the seaside.

I liked Thessaloniki. It was really calm and almost deserted. Everybody was celebrating Easter. It was just us wandering around and me taking pictures with the two cameras. I can still feel the pain in my neck because of that, but it was worth it.
